U-20 AFCON: Aigbogun Targets World Cup Ticket In Niger


Head Coach of Nigeria’s U-20 the Flying Eagles, Paul Aigbogunz has stated that his team will approach the U-20 AFCON in Niger Republic with all seriousness in their quest to qualify for the FIFA U-20 World Cup slated for Poland from May 23 to June 15 this summer, reports Completesports.com.

Nigeria have been drawn in Group A alongside host nation Niger Republic, South Africa and Burundi, with Niamey as the venue.

The U-20 AFCON will hold from the 2nd to the 17th February in Niger Republic.  All four semi-finalists will qualify to fly Africa’s flag at the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Poland.

“It is a tournament we are going to approach with all seriousness. This team has a huge burden on it because of the previous performances of Nigeria at U-20 level,” Aigbogun was quoted in a media statement of Communications department of the Nigeria Football Federation made available to Completesports.com.

“Playing in the WAFU Cup tournament in Togo gave my players sneak preview of what things would look like in Niger Republic, and we learnt a lot from the defeat to Senegal in the final match.”

Nigeria’s Flying Eagles have won the U-20 AFCON competition seven times.
