Completesportsnigeria.com's ADEBOYE AMOSU highlights the exciting facts and figures which made the Glo Premier League a pure spectacle in the first round of the season. These gists are bound to wet your appetite, for even more enthralling moments when the Nigeria's top flight resumes from recess on Sunday, August 2 2015.
1. Enyimba Are Most Dreadful In Away Games
The six-time champions are the first team to win more than three away matches in a league season since Dolphins (five) in the 2010/2011 season.
The Peoples Elephants are also closing in on that record having already recorded four wins on the road in the first stanza.
They beat Taraba United 1-0 in Jalingo in week five and Dolphins in Port Harcourt in week nine.
Recently they also recorded a 3-2 victory against Kwara United in Ilorin and on Sunday, edged out Rangers 2-1 in Enugu.
2. Sunshine Stars Are Home Match Specialists
The league leaders have succeeded in making the Akure Township Stadium a slaughter slab this season after winning all their matches at the venue.
They remain the only side to have achieved the feat so far this season.
3. 3SC's Clean Sheets
The Ibadan based outfit seem to have recovered from their early season blips as they have kept more clean sheets at home in the first stanza than any other team.
The Oluyole Warlords have conceded only once in their last five fixtures at the Lekan Salami Stadium.
4. Poorest Taraba United Winless In 17 Games!
Taraba United seem destined for a return to the National League except their interim gaffer Sabo Joseph turns things around in the second half of the season.
The Jalingo based side are without a win in their last 17 matches, the longest winless run by a Glo Premier League side in over a decade!
5. More Coaches Thrown Into The Labour Market
Daboere Dokubo (Sharks), Tunde Abdulrahman (Kwara United), Tony Ogharanduku (Taraba United) and Okey Emordi (Kano Pillars) were recently sacked by their clubs due to poor results. Overall, nine coaches have already lost their jobs this season.
6. Ejike, Adeniji Looking Good To Erase Udoh's Goals Record
The duo of Bright Ejike who plays for Heartland and Tunde Adeniji of Sunshine Stars have both scored 11 goals each this season. They now have to score 12 more in the second round of the season, to equal Mfon Udoh's 23, which is the highest number of goals scored by a player in a single season in the history of Nigeria Professional Football League.
7. Enyimba Shatter Enugu Jinx!
Before Sunday July 19 2015, Enyimba last tasted victory at the Nnamdi Azikwe Stadium, Enugu in 2007. The People's Elephant ended that poor run with a hard fought 2-1 win against their Oriental rivals last Sunday.
8. Pillars Still Unbeaten After 199 Home Games.
The Pyramid City side may not be enjoying a fine season, by their standard, but they have maintained their unbeaten streak at the Sani Abacha Stadium which is now 199 matches in total. Their last defeat at the venue was in June 2003 against Julius Berger.
9. Eguma Remains Untouchable, inexplicably!
With nine of his collegues already thrown into the labour market as a result of the poor performance of their respective teams, it is a surprise that Dolphins handler, Stanley Eguma is still in charge at Dolphins Football Club of Port Harcourt. And league watchers are ruminating on this.
The Port Harcourt dwellers look like a sure candidate for the drop as they currently sit in 19th position on the log, with only three wins from 19 games. Their Garden City rivals, Sharks who are also battling relegation, have changed coaches twice this season.
Teams like Taraba United and Kwara United who are also fighting to escape the drop recently sacked their coaches, but Eguma remains untouchable and look good to keep his job despite his team's poor form.
10. Mixed Blessings For Premier League Newcomers
The four promoted teams; Wikki Tourists, Shooting Stars, Kwara United and Ifeanyiubah have enjoyed contrasting fortunes since the start of the season.
Of the four, Wikki Tourists who are currently third on the log, have proved they have what it takes to flex muscles with the big boys. The Bauchi based outfit have won three away games.
Ifeanyiubah FC, though have struggled lately, have also not done badly as they sit in 8th position.
3SC who had a poor start to the season have improved tremendously and have moved from last position to 11th position on the table.
The Oluyole Warriors also have the best defensive record as they have let in the least number of goals (15) so far.
It is however a different story for Kwara United who have struggled for form and are few points away from the drop zone.
