The Nigeria Football Federation on Tuesday, 19 August 2014 released the list of 23 players for invitation ahead of the double 2015 African Cup of Nations qualifying games against Congo DR and South Africa in September.
The squad comprise mainly of players who were part of Nigeria’s 2013 African Cup of Nations triumph and the 2014 FIFA Worold Cup this summer.
However some players were conspiciously missing from the list named by the Glass House in the absence of a substantive coach for the Super Eagles.
The trio of Victor Moses, who has been signed on a season-long loan by Stoke City, AS Bastia of France’s Sunday Mba and new West Bromwich Albion record signing, Brown Aide Ideye and teammate Victor Anichebe were some of the players who missed out.
However the trio of Chinedu Obasi,Nosa Igiebor and Sone Aluko are making their return to the Nigerian national team.
The big surprise was the omission of Moses from this list. Do you think his absence has to do with his new Stoke City deal or because of his lack of match fitness?
Mba was surprisingly left out of Nigeria’s World Cup party. Now he is also missing from the latest Eagles team. Is this the begining of the end of his Super Eagles career?
And despite the fact that Stephen Keshi’s contract extension has not yet been confirmed , the new list has no Villarreal of Spain in-form striker Ikechukwu Uche. Are the Eagles coaches and the NFF doing the country and national team a deservice by not recalling Ike Uche?
