–As Ghana’s semi-final v Equatorial Guinea ends in Shambles

Ghana’s AFCON semi-final against Equatorial Guinea ended in shambles on Thursday evening – after riot police and a helicopter was brought in to stop crowd trouble.

The match was halted for more than half an hour as Ghana led the game 3-0 when Equatorial Guinea fans are thought to have started throwing bottles at the Ghana supporters.

It is believed that Ghana fans ran down the stand and gathered behind one of the goals to ensure their safety before the referee eventually suspended the match in the 83rd minute.

As both sets of players congregated in the middle of the pitch, bottles and objects were then hurled towards match officials before a helicopter appeared overhead – causing many supporters to leave the stadium.

Police resorted to using tear gas to try and resolve the situation as Equatorial Guinea players pleaded with their fans to calm down.

The game eventually resumed for just a further three minutes before the winning Ghana team were quickly led back into the changing room with the protection of riot police.

Ghana will now face the Ivory Coast in the final of the Africa Cup of Nations on Sunday.
