The Federation of International Football Federation (FIFA) on Thursday identified Super Falconets of Nigeria striker Rasheedat Ajibade as one of the players to watch out for in the course of the qualifiers to the 2018 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup in France, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.
FIFA also named Cameroon's Alexandra Take undated, while Ghana boasts of captain Sandra Owusu Ansah and goalkeeper Kayza Massey as some of the exciting players that will be aiming to help their countries reach the World Cup in 2018.
The African qualifiers for the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup France 2018 will kick off tomorrow (Friday, July 21) with a two-legged preliminary round which will see Burundi face Djibouti, Libya versus Sierra Leone, and Botswana clashing against Kenya.
The winners of these three ties will then join the likes of Nigeria, Ghana and Cameroon for the First Round games.
Nigeria’s U-20 women national side coached by Peter Dedevbo will play Tanzania in their First Round qualifying fixtures on the weekend of September 15-17, 2017, while the second leg holds between September 20 – October 1, 2017.
Nigeria twice reached the final of the U-20 World Cup, in 2010 and 2014, losing to Germany 1-0 on both occasions. Super Falcons striker, Asisat Oshoala won the Golden Ball and Golden Shoe awards in 2014 when Canada hosted the tournament.
An article on the FIFA website on Thursday reads in part: "Despite being the outstanding player and joint top goalscorer at the 2016 African U-17 Women’s World Cup Qualifying Tournament, Nigerian forward Rasheedat Ajibade was unable to make much of an impact on the finals themselves in Jordan, where she failed to get on the scoresheet. Understandably, she will be keen to make up for that disappointing experience during this upcoming campaign."
Two African countries will qualify for the FIFA Women's U-20 World Cup.
Nigeria have never missed participation at the U-20 Women's World Cup.
The FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup next year will hold 7-26 August 2018.Copyright © 2020 Completesports.com All rights reserved. The information contained in Completesports.com may not be published, broadcast, rewritten, or redistributed without the prior written authority of Completesports.com.
