2019 AFCON Qualifiers: Bafana Face Injury Crisis Ahead Super Eagles Clash

By Adeboye Amosu:
Bafana of South Africa face a major injury crisis ahead of their 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying fixture against the Super Eagles of Nigeria with several of their top stars doubtful for the clash due to fitness concern, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.

France-based duo, Bongani Zungu and Keagan Dolly, as well as home-based stars;# Dean Furman, Bradley Grobler and Sibusiso Vilakazi are all doubtful for the Bafana game due to injuries according to reports in South African press.

Kamohelo Mokotjo, who plays for English Championship club, Brentford has already been ruled out of the game as a result of ankle injury.

Mokotjo sustained the injury in Brentford’s penultimate league clash against Norwich City which they lost 1-0. He was substituted after 30 minutes in the game.

The 27- year-old was subsequently ruled out of The Bees’ 2-0 victory over Millwall on Saturday and, following further assessments, will be sidelined for up to six weeks.

Mokotjo had started and completed Bafana Bafana’s last three qualifiers including the recent back-to-back clashes with Seychelles, as well as the goalless draw with Libya in September.

Bafana Bafana head coach, Stuart Baxter will announced his squad for the clash with the Super Eagles on Monday.

Bafana are currently second in Group E, with eight points from four games, and need just three more points to guarantee their qualification to next year’s showpiece in Cameroon.

Nigeria are top of the standings – one point ahead, while Libya are on four points and Seychelles sit bottom with just one point.

The Nigerians are in do or die mission to revenge our home lost against a Country we traditionally always beat. South Africans injured or no injured, the Nigerians and their Management Officials are on a suicide mission to teach the South Africans a thing or two about soccer in their home land. The Nigerians are not going to fall for this South Africans fake news about their injury worries.

Currently, the motto is ” TO BEAT THE SOUTH AFRICANS AT HOME IS A TASK THAT MUST BE ATTAINED AT ALL COST”. We Nigerians believes this simple task will be met. Believe me.

south africans are simply looking for a way to win d game. all their player can get injury if they like, bt d match must b played. Sorry to any of their injured players.

  • This may be mind game because they want us to believe them and lower our alertness. We are not fooled or impressed or even want these injuries. Nigerians are kind hearted people. Football is a job young ones use to entertain themselves and the world and take care of themselves and their families. So we wish no one injury at all. Their families and friends will suffer and we don’t wish this on anyone. It is not a do or die affair my dear. Nigerian Super Eagles also have their own injury worries and suspensions. We the fans want to watch a beautiful game. If South Africa can come here and got a win, Super Eagles can also go there and win. This will be news. But if South Africa should win, it is no news. It is their home game. We should have won our home game too. That is the sensible thing to do. But the players were looking at past wins against them and we were caught napping. So we think South Africa will just roll over because we foolishly roll over for them. This is not dog play where “you fall for me I fall for you !!!!!” It’s going to be tough. We just need a draw as a worse case scenario. A win will be nice. Meanwhile let all Nigerians be assured that even if we lost the match we will still qualify for Afcon2019 if we beat Seychelles in Uyo/Asaba/Port Harcourt or wherever in our last match. South Africa may even be defeated by Libya in their last match. So no panic attack my dear.
