Nigeria Professional Football League side Shooting Stars Sports Club of Ibadan have opened a condolence register for their late defender Izu Joseph at their Jericho Road Secretariat, Ibadan, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.
Joseph was reportedly shot dead on Sunday in Okaki, Ahoada in Rivers State.
Similarly, the hierarchy of the club have described the shot defender as a dedicated player.
Spokesman of the club, Jubril Arowolo, in a statement made available to Completesportsnigeria.com revealed that the player allegedly died of gunshot fired by security forces parading a jetty in Okaki where the player and two of his friends had gone to see other friends on Sunday, according to family sources.
His two friends who were also injured died on the spot while Izu died on his way to the hospital.
General Manager of the club, Rasheed Balogun, according to the release, eulogized the player, describing him as a player that gave his best for the good of the club.
“He was a dedicated and team player who will be missed by the club.
"He always gave his best as a team player. We are going to miss him.
"We pray that God will grant the family the fortitude to bear the loss," Balogun was quoted by the release to have said.
Izu Joseph joined 3SC during the 2013/2014 season.
He was on the bench in Shooting Stars' 2-1 defeat at Abia Warriors in Umuahia in the match day 38 fixture of the 2015/2016 NPFL season.
