Redknapp: How I Signed Kanu For Portsmouth

By Adeboye Amosu:

Former Portsmouth manager, Harry Redknapp, has described how ex-Nigeria forward Nwankwo Kanu became one of the best signings of his managerial career, Completesportsnigeria.com can report.
The Nigerian forward joined Pompey in the summer of 2006 after he was released by West Bromwich Albion.
“I called him up and asked what he was up to, I always wondered what he had done ever since he left West Brom,” Redknapp revealed to Kingfut.com.
“I asked him if he was fit to play and to this he replied saying: ‘Yes, I just had a run around the park two weeks ago’, so I gave him the address and asked him to come to training.”
The lanky striker made an impressive start for the club, scoring a brace on his debut.
“I didn’t play him until the second half when we were 1-0 up. My assistants were against me playing him from the start and were worried but I trusted the lad, he went on to score twice and missed a penalty for his hat-trick,” Redknapp added.
Kanu who earlier played for European heavyweights like Ajax Amsterdam, Inter Milan and Arsenal scored 20 goals in 141 appearances in his six seasons with Portsmouth.
