Sunderland and Arsenal played out a 0-0 draw in Sunday’s English Premier League clash at the Stadium of Light.
The draw leaves Arsenal in fourth and on 64 points, the same as Manchester City.
Sunderland move out of the bottom three and are now 17th in the league table.
Nigerian youngster Alex Iwobi, who had a quiet game and had to give way for Theo Walcott, had the match’s first chance on four minutes but dragged his shot wide of the post.
In the ninth minute Pier Mertesacker met a corner with his head which didn’t bother Vito Manone.
Wahbi Kahzri caught Aaron Ramsey in possession but his shot was deflected for a corner.
Mannone was called into action on 20 minutes, gathering Mohamed Elneny’s curler.
Sunderland almost went in front in the 22nd minute through Patrick Van Aanholt from a free-kick but his effort crashes against the bar.
On 31 minutes, a good passage of play by Arsenal saw Mezut Ozil’s shot took a deflection which Mannone saved.
Mannone made a superb save off a free-kick from Alexis Sanchez on 34 minutes before the loose ball was scrambled away by Sunderland’s defence.
In the 37th minute, a penalty appeal by Sunderland was waved away by Mike Dean after Jermaine Defoe’s shot hit Mertesacker’s hand.
Olivier Giroud in the 41st minute teed up Iwobi whose shot hit the arm of Yedlin but nothing was given.
Five minutes into the restart, Cech was forced to make a double save from Defoe and M’Vila.
On 57 minutes, the ball falls to Iwobi at the back post but couldn’t get his shot on target.
Arsenal had a chance in the 60th minute but Ramsey’s attempted volley on the edge of the box went high and wide.
In the 64th minute, Defoe raced through and lift tedhe ball over Cech which crept just wide.
Koscielny made a very good block on 68 minutes, coming across to cut out a dangerous ball by Defoe.
Arsenal made a double change, with the duo of Danny Welbeck and Theo Walcott replacing Iwobi and Giroud.
Sunderland also made a change with Duncan Watmore replacing Borini.
Welbeck tried a shot from distance in the 82nd minute which Mannone gathered well.
Arsenal made their final change on 84 minutes, with long term absentee Jack Wilshere replacing Ozil for his first senior appearance thid season.
