Former Nigeria youth international Ambrose Vanzekin has lavished praises on former Super Eagles captain, Vincent Enyeama, on his recent honour as one of the best goalkeepers in world football, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.
The retired Nigerian star was rated as the sixth best keeper on the globe by the Swiss-based CIES Football Observatory.
The Lille Metropole of France custodian is the only African on the top ten list released on goalkeepers in the world.
Enyeama is the sixth on the list, compiled by Swiss-based CIES football observatory, ahead of the likes of David De Gea of Manchester United, Petr Cech of Arsenal and Joe Hart of Manchester City.
Also behind Enyeama are Hugo Lloris of Tottenham, Alphonse Areola of Villareal, Keylor Navas of Real Madrid and Pepe Reina of Napoli.
But ahead of the Lille FC goalkeeper are Manuel Neuer of Bayern Munich, Jan Oblak of Atletico Madrid, Gianluigi Buffon of Juventus, Kevin Trapp of PSG and Claudio Bravo of Barcelona.
The Football statistics-based CIES ranked the players taking into account the number of goals conceded per match,
number of minutes per goal, number of passes per match, number of saves per match, number of saves per goal conceded and the percentage of saves.
Vanzekin who was on duty for Nigeria in the 2008 Olympics spoke with Completesportsnigeria.com on Enyeama’s recognition as one of the keepers in the world.
“I’m very happy for Vincent Enyeama. This recognition shows that perhaps we still need his experience in the Super Eagles, it depends on side of the divide you belong,” Vanzekin said.
“He (Enyeama) has been a source of inspiration to young goalkeepers like me. He gives us hope and those of us behind him believe we can bring out the best in us. Thoughts of his heroics always cross my mind when I’m in the goal post.
“Its not easy to make it big in Europe as an African keeper. Enyeama has proved his class in the French league and in the different competitions he represented Nigeria. May God bless him and his family.”
Vanzekin then disclosed to Completesportsnigeria.com that he is presently in Nnewi, Anambra Stata to negotiate a move to FC IfeanyiUbah.
“At the moment, I’m unattached but I’ve been invited by the chairman of FC IfeanyiUbah to discuss a possible move to the club.
“Right now, we are in still on negotiations. Hopefully talks will go well. FC IfeanyiUbah have done well so far in the Nigeria Professional Football League,” Vanzekin told Completesportsnigeria.com.
