By Johnny Edward:
Nigeria striker Odion Ighalo will battle captain Troy Deeney for Watford’s Player of the Year award for a second consecutive season, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.
Ighalo, who missed out on the award to Deeney last season, will compete with Heurelho Gomes, Craig Cathcart and Ben Watson for the gong.
Deeney who scored twice in last weekend’s Premier League triumph over Aston Villa could make history if he completes the hat-trick in 2016 as the accolade has never been claimed by the same player three years in succession.
Ighalo who has netted 16 times this season also saw five of his goals nominated for the Hornets’ best goal of the campaign.
Voting for both categories ends at midnight on Sunday May 8, and the winners will be presented with their trophies at the club’s End of Season Awards Evening next month.
