Real Edge Atletico On Penalties, Claim 11th UCL Title

Real Madrid defeated Atletico Madrid 5-3 on penalties in the final of the UEFA Champions League final at the San Siro Stadium, Milan on Saturday night.

Cristiano Ronaldo scored the decisive penalty kick to hand Real their 11th Champions League title after regulation time ended 1-1.

Sergio Ramos gave Real the lead before substitute Yannick Carrasco drew Atletico level during regulation time.


Atletico had the game’s first attempt on goal on five minutes but Koke’s strike didn’t trouble Keylor Navas.

A minute later Real had a glorious chance through Casemiro off Gareth Bale’s free-kick but Oblak made a point-blank save with his leg.

Real had another chance in the ninth minute through Toni Kroos but his left-foot strike was blocked by Savic for a corner.

Real went in front through Ramos in the 15th minute, bundling in Bale’s flick on from Kroos’s free-kick.

Ronaldo sent in a right-wing cross which Oblak gathered well.

On the half hour mark, Oblak made a good save, parrying away Benzema’s cross.

In the 32nd minute, Griesman tried a lob from outside Real’s box but Navas calmly claimed the ball in the air.

Griezman aimed a low long range strike in the 40th minute which Navas saved.

In the 42nd minute Griezman hit another long range shot which narrowly missed the target.

Prior to the start of the second half, Atletico made a change, bringing on Yannick Carrasco for Augusto Fernandez.

Griezman missed from the penalty spot on 47 minutes, hitting the cross bar after Pepe fouled Torres in the box.

Real were forced into a change on 52 minutes as Carvajal went off injured and was replaced by Danilo.

Savic came close to equalizing for Atletico in the 54th minute but his effort went whiskers wide.

A few minutes later Bale saw his left-foot long range effort go wide.

in the 59th minute Saul connected with a left wing cross which missed the target.

Bale hit a long free-kick in the 68th minute but it came off Atletico’s wall and went off for a corner.

Oblak made a one-on-one save from Benzema in the 70th minute after after Real broke.

Real made their second change with Isco replacing Kroos.

In the 74th minute Torres headed Felipe’s cross which went over the bar.

Real made their last change on 77 minute with Benzema going off for Lucas Vazquez.

Ronaldo almost doubled Real’s lead in the 78th minute but his shot was saved by Oblak.

A minute later Atletico made a goal line clearance.

Carrasco levelled for Atletico on 79 minutes, smashing into the roof of the net off Juan Fran cross.

Torres had a chance to put Atletico in front on 83 minutes but his attempt off Juan Fran’s cross went just wide.

Bale had a good chance in the 86th minute only to see his header from Modric’s corner go over the bar.

Marcelo sent in a dangerous cross which failed to meet any Real player.

In the first minute of extra-time Real had a chance from Casemiro but Oblak made a good saved.

Real had another opportunity in the 95th minute through Ronaldo whose header from Isco corner fell into the waiting arms of Oblak.

Danilo made a timely clearance with his head from a dangerous cross.

Griezman attempted a bicycle kick from a corner in the 105 minute but it sailed way over the bar.

Casemiro had Real’s first chance in the first minute of second half of extra time which flew over the bar.

Felipe Luis went off injured in the 107th minute and was replaced by Lucas.

Atletico were forced into another change on 114 minutes as Koke went off for Thomas Partey.

Lucas made a good block to prevent Danilo a scoring opportunity in the final minute of extra-time.
