5 Eagles Raring To Prove Doubters Wrong Vs Seychelles

5 Eagles Raring To Prove Doubters Wrong Vs Seychelles

As Nigeria’s Super Eagles get set to take on the Pirates of Seychelles at the Linite Stadium in Victoria on Saturday in a 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match, Completesportsnigeria.com’s JOHNNY EDWARD highlights five players who are looking to prove that they are relevant to the team against some critics’ beliefs.

Ogenyi Onazi (Midfielder)

The 2018 FIFA World Cup is one tournament Trabzonspor midfielder Ogenyi Onazi will love to forget in a hurry. The 25 year old did not feature in any of Nigeria’s three games as the team crashed out in the group stages.

With the absence of John Mikel Obi, the game against Seychelles will offer Onazi an ample opportunity to stamp his lost authority on the team as the Super Eagles fight for their first win of the qualifiers in Victoria. The former Lazio star has been in rich vein of form for his Turkish club scoring a goal in his last five games for the club.

Odion Ighalo (Striker)

Odion Ighalo also had a FIFA World Cup tournament to forget. The Changchun Yatai striker failed to live up to expectation for the Super Eagles before they crashed out in the group stages of the tournament.

Despite his poor outing in Russia, Ighalo has been in splendid form for his Chinese Super League team, Changchun Yatai this season scoring 16 goals in 21 games. But he will be fighting to banish the jinx that has seen himm failing to score for the Nigeria in nine games

Ighalo’s last goal for the Super Eagles was in a 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Cameroon in Uyo on September 1st, 2017.

He is expected to be fired up to add to his tally of four goals at the international level for Nigeria.

Chidozie Awaziem (Centre-Back)

The FC Porto centre-back has featured as an unused substitute for Nigeria since his poor display against Serbia in a friendly in London prior to the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

The 21 year old is expected to break into the starting line-up of the Super Eagles with the absence of William Troost Ekong, but he will have Kenneth Omeruo to contend with.

If he gets the nod ahead of Omeruo, this fixture will give him a chance to prove he is fit enough to claim his spot in the squad

Awaziem has only three caps to his name.

Kelechi Iheanacho (Striker)

Leicester City forward, Kelechi Iheanacho has been one of Nigeria’s prolific forwards under Gernot Rohr. Infact, Iheanacho’s pile driver against Tanzania gave Rohr his first solitary win over the Taifa Stars.

He has scored eight goals in 20 appearances for the Super Eagles.

However, since his goal against Argentina in an international friendly in Krassnodar, the 21 year old has gone seven games without a goal for Nigeria.

The former Manchester City forward has also played as a substitute in his last seven games for Nigeria.

The game against Seychelles in Victoria will offer him an opportunity to prove that he is capable of keeping his place in the Super Eagles’ starting lineup.

Kelechi Nwakali (Midfielder)

Having found first-team opportunities hard to get at Arsenal Kelechi Nwakali was finally shipped off to FC Porto B this summer.

The 20 year old midfielder made a scoring debut for the Super Eagles B team in their 3-2 loss to Atletico Madrid in May.

Nwakali jnr must capitalize on the chances presented to him to slot into the main Super Eagles’ team in the absence of skipper John Mikel Obi. His performances for the Super Eagles against Seychelles would decide his future in the team.

A stellar performance can help him get more opportunities with the three time African champions.

“5 Eagles Raring To Prove Doubters Wrong Vs Seychelles”

This headline makes me laughs so much.
Meanwhile Mr. Editor, these players have nothing to prove to no one because we knew what they are capable of and both teams are not in the same class. Anything less than a win, is a failure.

However, an elder says, “Ti ori ęlędę oba lęran, se alefiwe ti adiyę ni”?

“Meaning, if pig head doesn’t have meat, can we compare it to chicken’s head? Absolutely no, we can’t”.

Ighalo shouldn’t have been among of those players you have mentioned above here because he can’t give what he doesn’t have like I always said. We all knew their capacities but the coach we have doesn’t help the situations at all. Half Osemeh should could have been better.

Not that I hate no one but we can’t continue like this. Imagine the coach Rohr that said he won’t replaced the injured players with the standby players, that said a lot of him.

This coach has his own tools but he doesn’t know how to us them. He is so confused and if we continue like that, it won’t give us any good result.

Winning against Seychelles is very important to Nigeria as a nation but we should not be carried away because NFF needed to test the strengths of the Eagles team with top teams, so that we will know where we are. Imagine playing against Saudi Arabia can never help our Super Eagles team.

Mr. Pinnick and coach Rohr should stop deceiving Nigerians. We need to play with top teams in the world. The earlier we realized this the better.
God bless us all. God bless Nigeria!!!

  • Ighalo has proven enough, he’s a waster for the super eagles, he should retire and give younger boys raring to go and not a guy that seems to be regressing.

  • Even Nig 10: 0 Seychelles, does nit prove any point, they are not a match for the SE.

The arenna to prove any point was Russia.
Whoever could not probe his point in Russia, is not fit to wear our jessey.

I will love to see what this team has to offer without the likes of Mikel and Victor Moses. I’m staking a win on Nigeria at BetwayNG sha.

  • Would have preferred Nigeria playing a bigger team cos then we would know what we really can do, well betway got some nice odds on this game so it’s still a win win for me.

  • I didn’t call anyone name o but someone should re-read what he wrote. He would have wished Nigeria play a bigger team and lose for him to know what we are capable of!!! Laughable write-up indeed. How on earth can someone wish such for himself when he can tackle the easy obstacles first before facing the hard and difficult ones. Even Germany, Brazil, Belgium, France and Croatia will not wish such for themselves. Ok just reason with me. How did you fare when we were put in group D which include your difficult ones, Croatia and Argentina? Perhaps you were very excited about our not getting to the round if 16. What you just wrote is a confession. You unknowingly confessed to how people like you wished Nigeria failure and you were granted with that difficult draw. You are so unhappily sad that Nigeria is playing a seemingly weaker team. I sense you will jump foe joy if Nigeria have a negative result. We need an outright win to catch up with the front runners. We are 3rd in the group. A draw is bad, very bad. I will not even mention our fate if the unimaginable happens. People like you, Solomon Dalung and Chris Giwa will be disappointed. We will defeat Seychelles.

  • #Omo9ja which one bi Your Own sef. We have left WC problems behind and we are moving forward. You are from the same Edo state as Odion Ighalo. If you have family or business issues to grind why bother us with your quarrels. It’s a family matter. The coach has invited him and refused to replace the injured players so what? The thoughts of the coaching staff is that any invited players now is just a waste of funds. They will not even play. Only 14 players will play the match and he already has them in the camp. Compare Odion Ighalo to Oliver Geroude of France/Chelsea. He doesn’t score but he is valuable. Very valuable for both club and country. Why? You will never know but the coaching staff know. You are not a professional coach. So leave Odion Ighalo matter for those who know. He scores for club plentifully. You are aware of that. Go home and solve you problem with Odion Ighalo.

  • @Omo9ja, as for me Odion Ighalo is better than Kelechi Iheanacho. So if KeIg is invited, there is no reason whatsoever for OdIg not to be invited. They are among the best we have until others prove themselves better.

    • DjCh,
Ighalo has scored 4 goals in 22 matches with one assist since 2015 . 1,254 minutes played in total.

Kelechi has scored 8 goals in 21 matches with 4 assists since 2015. 1,190 minutes played

Neither of them have scored this year for Nigeria:
Ighalo last goal 1st September 2017 (over a year ago),
Iheanacho last goal 14 November 2017 (10 months ago).

But going by stats, Iheanacho has been twice as successful for the Super Eagles than Ighalo
