Completesportsnigeria.com’s Adeboye Amosu looks ahead to one of the biggest fixtures in the Nigerian calendar, the Glo Premier League clash between Rangers and 3SC on Sunday, and gives reasons why the tie between one of Nigeria’s biggest rivalries must not be missed…
EXPECT A CRACKER IN ENUGU
Matches between these two old rivals have always generated keen interest among the club fans and neutrals.
Cast your mind back to the late 70’s and early 80’s, this was the most anticipated match in the Nigerian League because of the fierce rivalry that existed between both teams and the quality of the players they paraded.
This will surely not be an exception as both sides will be out prove their supremacy and earn the bragging rights.
3SC EAGER TO IMPROVE AWAY RECORD
The Oluyole Warlords have fared poorly in their last two away games and will be out to end the rot.
Gbenga Ogunbote charges have conceded eight goals in their last two away games and scored once.
They head into Sunday’s game in good stead following last weekend’s 2-1 home win against South West rivals, Sunshine Stars of Akure.
CAN RANGERS OVERCOME RECENT POOR RUN?
Rangers have looked out of sorts since their controversial exit from the Federation Cup at the hands of Lobi Stars. The Flying Antelopes have recorded just two wins in their last 11 games in all competitions.
Add that to the strike action embarked upon by the players this week over the non-payment of their salaries, it will be interesting to see how they handle the distraction.
CAN 3SC ESCAPE SOUTH EAST WITH ANOTHER WIN?
Shooting Stars’ last trip to the south east part of the country was a memorable one as they beat Heartland 3-1 at the Dan Ayiam Stadium.
It is their only away win of the campaign.
This should serve as a big inspiration as they look pick another vital win against another Oriental side.
WILL BOTH TEAMS SHARE SPOILS AGAIN?
The first meetings between the two sides earlier in the season ended in a 1-1 draw. Rangers scored first on that occasion before 3SC rallied back to secure a 1-1 draw at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Ibadan.
It will be interesting to see if both sides will settle for a draw this time around.
