1. MFM FUMBLED AND WOBBLED TO ANOTHER WIN
MFM struggled all day to secure another home win in their second CAF Champions League game at the Agege Stadium against a more technically suave and stronger MC Alger side at the Agege Stadium Lagos. It was a victory which brought back memories of their success against AS Real de Bamako of Mali in the previous round.
In that game against he Malians,MFM FC were outplayed by the visitors for the better parts of the game but still managed to carry the day courtesy of Chijoke Akuneto’s late goal.
Things was a bit better against MC Alger, especially in the first half where they pressed high up the pitch which sometimes unsettled the Algerians, but they totally lost their rhythm after the break.
2. BASHIRU MONSURU IS A REAL GEM
MFM FC’s midfielder, Bashiru Monsuru, is no doubt a cat with nine lives. Monsuru appeared to have slumped in the 20th minute of the game following an heavy challenge by an MC Alger player and was quickly attended to by the medics.
He was soon back on his feet, and refused several attempts to be substituted afterwards.
His winning goal five minutes from time was a delight to watch, a superb shot from outside the box which caught the opposing goalkeeper off guard.
3. MC ALGER STRUGGLED A BIT UNDER HOT WEATHER
Coming from an environment where the weather is extremely cold, the MC Alger players found life a bit tough under the hot condition at the Agege Stadium, especially in the first half.
They used every opportunity to rest and gulped water into their system. It was no surprise their performance improved after the break after the sun came down a bit.
4. AKUNNETO PROVED HIS CLASS AGAIN
With the forced absence of MFM FC key regulars, like Sikiru Olatunbosun, Waheed Adebayo, Adekunle Adegboyega and Jesse Akila due to registration discrepancies, the responsibility to deliver the goods once again fell on resourceful forward, Chijioke Akuneto, and he did not disappoint as he scored the opening goal from the spot and was impressive all through.
For the records, Akuneto scored the first two continental goals at the Agege Stadium.
5. MFM DEFENCE STOOD FIRM AGAIN
One department of the MFM’s team that has always looked solid is the defence. Marshalled by captain of the team, Austine Opara, the defenders were at their best against MC Alger even though the team conceded a goal this time around.
They could be the key to getting a favourable result in the return leg on March 17 in Algiers.Fastest Paying Betting Site in Nigeria: Grab your 140% First Time Deposit Bonus Now — www.Sportybet.Com Copyright © 2021 Completesports.com All rights reserved.
