Completesportsnigeria.com's ADEBOYE AMOSU highlights the major talking points of the Nigerian league this weekend. They're bound to engage you and facilitate your enjoyment of the local flavour that the NPFL offers.
1. CAN RABIU ALI'S, UBONG EKPAI'S IMPRESSIVE FORMS CONTINUE?
Kano Pillars captain, Rabiu Ali was the hero for his side last weekend as his hat-trick helped the Sai Masu Gida secure a hard fought 3-2 win against Akwa United at the Sani Abacha Stadium.
Attention will be on him on Sunday as Mohammed Babaganaru's men will look to continue their impressive start to the season.
Ubong Ekpai who have almost single handedly shoulder goalscoring responsibilities for Akwa United this term will also fancy increasing his tally when his side tackle Plateau United.
2. RIVERS UNITED OUT TO END AWAY HOODOO
The Pride of Rivers have won all their three home games this term, but have struggled on the road.
Their two road trip fixtures against MFM FC and Plateau United ended in 2-1 defeats. Stanley Eguma's men will be desperate to end that poor run against a Niger Tornadoes side who have recorded just one win in five outings.
3. CAN ABIA WARRIORS SECURE FIRST TOP FLIGHT WIN AGAINST RANGERS?
Abia Warriors are still searching for their first win in the top flight against Oriental rivals, Rangers since their promotion three seasons ago. Their task will be much harder this time around as their skipper, Austin Obaroakpo is suspended for the tie.
Rangers have started the season on an impressive note and will be harder to beat this time around.
4. CAN IKORODU UNITED END THEIR VISIT TO NNEWI ON A HIGH?
League newcomers, Ikorodu United will visit the eastern part of the country for the second time in two weeks. In their first visit, they lost 1-0 to Enyimba. It was a bitter defeat for the Lagos- based oufit as they conceded the goal a minute from full time.
This time around, they will hope for better luck when they square up against FC IfeanyiUbah in Nnewi.
5. SUNSHINE STARS CONTINUE SEARCH FOR FIRST WIN.
Sunshine Stars have endured a poor start to the season and it's hard to believe a side that challenged for the title last season is now in the bottom half of the log.
They will be out to earn a win in Sunday's fixture against Gbenga Ogunbote's Giwa FC at the Rwang Pam Stadium, Jos.
