Chelsea manager Antonio Conte has insisted that Mikel Obi is still part of his Chelsea squad but that the Nigeria midfielder’s future with the London club is still undecided, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.
Mikel is yet to feature under Conte this season and has been touted to leave Stamford Bridge during the January transfer window.
Speaking at Friday’s press conference ahead of the Premier League visit of West Brom, Conte said: “Mikel is in the squad now. At the end of this season his contract will expire but it is not right to talk now beyond that.”
Commenting on the game against West Brom, Conte said he expects a good performance from his players while stressing that he hopes his players still maintain their hunger from previous games.
“My players have trained well and I am anticipating a good performance against West Brom,” Conte added.
“It will be difficult if the team do not approach the game in the same way as the recent wins.
“It is important that my players do not lose their hunger.”
On Chelsea being the favourites for this season’s league title, Conte said: “It is difficult to accept Chelsea are title favourites as there is more than half the season to play.”
The former Juventus boss ruled skipper John Terry and Oscar out of the game against the Baggies but hinted that Nemanja Matic could return from injury.
