Nigerian boxer Olufemi Oyeleye has been tipped to reach great heights after he won his second professional bout in United States of America, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.
Fighting under Mayweather Promotions, Oyeleye, a 2015 All Africa Games champion, secured a unanimous points victory over American fighter Adnan Ahumada Melchiot over four rounds on Friday night.
Oyeleye, who left for America last year after losing his place on the Nigerian boxing team bound for the Olympic Games in Rio last summer, has suddenly found his rhythm again after teaming up with former Olympian, Charles Nwokolo .
At Pechanga Resort and Casino in Temecula, California the Nigerian who now campaigns in the middleweight category sent his record up to 2-0 right in front of his benefactor, Floyd Mayweather, who was in the crowd to assess boxers in his stable.
Nwokolo, who runs The Tiger Boxing Gym in California, had assured Completesportsnigeria.com In an interview last year that his ward Oyeleye is like raw diamond who needed to be properly handled.
“Femi will go far if properly handled. But how far he goes will depend on him keeping his head, for now, he is doing just fine,” Nwokolo, who had a stellar pro career in the US in the 1990’s after representing Nigeria at 1984 Los Angeles Olympics where he got to the quarter finals, assured.
Oyeleye will fight again in a few months time according to the terms of his contract.
