Nigerian trio of Moses Simon, Samuel Kalu and Anderson Esiti have all been nominated for Gent’s most valuable player of the season award, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.
Ghana’s Nana Asare won the MVP award last season.
The award which is in memory of Jean-Claude Bouvy who was a legend at the club will be handed to the player who gets the highest number of votes after two rounds of voting.
Other players nominated for the award include Yuya Kubo, Jérémy Perbet Lovre Kalinic, Samuel Gigot, Stefan Mitrovic, Nana Asare and Rami Gershon.
Thomas Foket, Brecht Dejaegere, Thibault De Smet and Louis Verstraete are also nominated.
The 2016/17 MVP of the season will be announced on Thursday, May 18th at Gent’s last home game of the season against SV Zulte Waregem.
Simon who missed Sunday’s 4-3 to Joseph Akpala’s Oostende in the race for the Belgian title has featured 29 times, scoring five goals, while Esiti who joined last summer has made 29 appearances.
Kalu on his part has scored two league goals in 14 games.
Austin Eguavoen is the only Nigerian to have won the MVP award in the history of the club. The former Nigerian captain and coach of the Super Eagles was named Gent’s MVP during the 1988/1989 season.
