Rohr: Poland, Nigeria Will Benefit From Friendly; Uzoho Will Start

By James Agberebi:

Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr believes both his side and Poland will benefit immensely from Friday’s international friendly in Wroclaw, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.

The Eagles will officially kickoff preparations for the 2018 FIFA World Cup when they face the Poles, who will also be in Russia, from 8.45pm Friday night.

After the game in Poland, the Eagles will then leave for London to face Serbia in another friendl.

Speaking at a press conference, Rohr stated why Poland picked the Eagles for a friendly.

“We know very well the Senegalese team who play good football, they have a strong team,” Rohr said during his pre-match press conference on Thursday night.

“I suppose we are invited because they (Poland) are playing Senegal (at the World Cup). And we and Senegal are the only two black African teams at the World Cup, the other three African teams (Egypt, Tunisia, Morocco) are from North Africa.

“It will be good preparation for Poland but also for us because Croatia has very high level. And we play Serbia next Tuesday in London so we have two good preparation games for the World Cup.”

Rohr also revealed that young Deportivo La Coruna goalkeeper Francis Uzoho will make his first start for the Super Eagles in the game against Poland.

Uzoho made his first appearance for the Eagles when he came on for Daniel Akpeyi in the 4-2 win against Argentina on November 14, 2017.

I agree completely with you but the NFF has been awesome as well. They have provided him with all he needs to be successful, Amaju P will be around for a very long time.

The goal keeping department is not really good, I think Austin Ejide deserves to be first choice goal keeper at this time

    • Chamberlain Duruike 5 years ago

Hmmmm, what do we neeed Austin Ejide for? Is it his experience or weak agility due to age. If we need just experience we as well call for Rufai, Alloy, Okala, etc. This guy is old. Please lets look for youthfulness, agility and some experience.

You are not inline then drive offline from this article. Ride on Mr. GR. Ejide has all opportunity bt late for him now

i am so happy Daniel Akpeyi could not make due to visa problems, i never wanted him there, i think Rohr should forget him for subsequent invites

    • ovoke ogheneovo 5 years ago

True talk bro… I don’t kwow why rohr won’t just allow that guy leave. He has got his opportunities and failed woefully… What other evidence do we need?

  • Lloyd 5 years ago

Austin Ejide is too heavy, I think we should look at Dele Aiyenugba or we stick to what we have for now and improve them to become better Goalkeepers.

    • Kay Bandy 5 years ago

I thought i was the only one seeing that…way too heavy

  • KAMALU 5 years ago

Rohr is doing ok. Why on earth will Nigeria not treat their indigenous coaches same way. What he makes in a month is what Keshi or Siasia was giving for six months. We can only make ourselves to excel.

  • Kay Bandy 5 years ago

I think the NFF Prsdnt has to be really commended for all his works since hes been in charge, most especially for the Super Egls, i just hope the boys perform considerably well in Russia.

Nigerians are too confident about this world cup. May we not be disappointed.

  • Let’s not panic. Uzoho May be young, but he has the qualities of a great keeper. He is tall, wiry and smart. Let him have his baptism of fire to test his preparedness. Good luck SE.
