Nigeria’s U-20 side, the Flying Eagles will begin their quest for a place at the 2019 CAF U-20 Africa Nations Cup in Niger when they take on Guinea-Bissau in their First Round, first leg tie at the September 24 National Stadium, Bissau today (Saturday), reports Completesportsnigeria.com.
The Flying Eagles who are the most successful side in the history of the U-20 AFCON with seven titles failed to qualify for the last edition hosted by Zambia after they were knocked out by Sudan.
They will do well not to underrate the Young Djurtinhos who were responsible for the elimination of Sierra Leone 1-0 on aggregate in the First Round.
There are also reports that the coach of Guinea-Bissau Emiliano Te has named nine Portugal-based professionals in his 18-man squad for the game which makes the encounter a tricky affair.
The Flying Eagles on the other hand have only one foreign-based player in their ranks, goalkeeper Akpan Udoh, but will bank on talented stars like Plateau United winger, Peter Eneji , skipper Ikouewen Udoh, Aniekeme Asuquo, Ibrahim Babawo and Jerome Akor to help get a favourable result in the game.
Paul Aigbogun’s men arrived Bissau late Thursday night after connecting a flight from Morocco and had a feel of the September 24 National Stadium on Friday evening.
The game will kick-off at 5pm Nigerian time.
The four semi-finalists at Niger 2019 will qualify for the FIFA U-20 World Cup same year in Poland.
