Nigeria U-23 football team assistant coach, Monday Odigie, has hailed Congo Brazzaville for exploiting the FIFA match window to engage their senior national team in grade A friendly matches.

The Red Devils played two top international friendly games in two days at the Stade de I’Unite, Kintele, Brazzaville.

The 11th All Africa Games hosts were up against West Africa foes, Ghana, on Tuesday while the Azzurri of Italy took their turn the following day to size up the Red Devils.

“For me, the Congolese did the right thing by exploiting the two days preceding the FIFA window to engage their national team in tune-up games,” Odigie told completesportsnigeria.com at the Games Village, Kintele.

“Within two days, they were able to play two grade A matches, first against Ghana and secondly against Italy.

“Its not about winning or the result but its all about what is gained from such games.

“Team bonding is very important especially during a process of qualification series like the Africa Cup of Nations.”

Ghana defeated Congo 3-2 in the game while the hosts laboured to a 3-3 draw against the 1990 World Cup hosts Italy.
