Super Eagles defender Shehu Abdullahi was on from the start for Anorthosis who suffered their first defeat in the Cyprus league this season with a 3-0 home loss to Apoel Nicosia on Wednesday.
Anorthosis went into the game against Apoel on the back of 16 games unbeaten (10 wins and six draws).
But the unbeaten streak finally ended as goals from Mickael Pote, Lorenzo Ebecilio and Igor de Camargo inflicted Abdullahi and his Anorthosis teammates with their first taste of defeat of the league season.
Apoel got off to the perfect start as they took the lead in the first minute through Pote.
In the 58th minute, Ebecilio doubled their lead to make it 2-0.
And with five minutes remaining, de Camargo put the game beyond doubt as he added the third goal.
The defeat saw Anorthosis drop to second on 36 points, one point behind new leaders AEK Larnaca.
Apoel are now third on 33 points with two outstanding games.
