Former Nigeria international Mutiu Adepoju has stated that the 3-0 win by Croatia against Argentina in Thursday’s Russia 2018 FIFA World Cup clash has thrown Group D open.
Croatia cemented their place in the round of 16 following their impressive win against Argentina.
Goals from Ante Rebic, Luka Modric and Ivan Rakitic sent Croatia into the knockout stage for the first time since their debut at France 1998.
The Super Eagles will face Iceland on Friday in a must-win game which will decide whether they stand a chance to qualify for the next round.
“The group is now open with Croatia beating Argentina so it is now a must-win for the Super Eagles against Iceland,” Adepoju who represented Nigeria at three FIFA World Cups (1994, 1998, 2002), said on Brila FM.
“In their last game against Croatia they didn’t give their best but now they must go all out.
“We have excellent players who can do the job but they must turn up. They must match Iceland strength for strength and work more than the Iceland team.”
