Former Super Eagles midfielder, Mutiu Adepoju, has recommended that August 12 be declared as public holiday in Nigeria in honour of the late Samuel Okwaraji who slumped and died while playing for the country, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.
Okwaraji, a midfielder, died 29 years ago after he slumped during the 1990 FIFA World Cup qualifying match between Nigeria and Angola at the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos.
The talented midfielder died on the way to the hospital with his sudden and shocking demise linked to heart failure.
He was aged 25 at the time of his death and made eight appearances for the then Green Eagles with one goal to his name.
He had stints with Dinamo Zagreb, Austria Klagenfurt, VfB Stuttgart, and SSV Ulm at club level.
“It is not a bad idea if August 12 is declared as public holiday to remember #SamuelOkwaraji who passed on to glory on this day in 1989. Keep resting legend 🙏😭😭😭😭#WeRememberOkwaraji,” Adepoju tweeted on Sunday.Fastest Paying Betting Site in Nigeria: Grab your 140% First Time Deposit Bonus Now — www.Sportybet.Com Copyright © 2021 Completesports.com All rights reserved.
