Adepoju Warns Flying Eagles To Brace For Tough Burundi Match

By James Agberebi:

Former Nigeria international Mutiu Adepoju has predicted a tough game for the Flying Eagles ahead of Saturday's 2017 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier away to Burundi.

The Flying Eagles had a bye in the First Round of the qualifiers, while Burundi progressed into the Second Round after their opponents, DR Congo, withdrew.

In a chat with, Adepoju, a 1989 FIFA U-20 World Cup star, stated that the Flying Eagles should expect a resolute Burundi side.

"There are no easy games in football anymore. We can't say the Flying Eagles will just get a straight victory," Adepoju told

"Burundi have been preparing and they will want to qualify. They will give the Flying Eagles a big fight.

"I hope the Flying Eagles have a good game and continue what the bulk of the players did at the last U-17 World Cup. The players and coaches are aware of the importance of the game and how difficult it will be."

Adepoju added: "My advice is for them is to concentrate and give everything in order to win the match and stand a good chance of qualifying for the Final Round of the qualifiers."

The Flying Eagles are the U-20 AFCON champions – they won last year's edition in Senegal.
