Former Super Eagles midfielder Friday Ekpo will not have sleepless nights over Nigeria’s clashes against the Pharaohs of Egypt in the 2017 African Cup of Nations qualifiers.
Instead the one-time Calabar Rovers dynamo reveals to Completesportsnigeria.com that he is worried about Tanzania and Chad grouped along with the Eagles.
The Confederation of African Football on Wednesday conducted the draws for qualifiers to the 31st edition of the African Cup of Nations which will be hosted by Gabon.
“Thank God,” was the first reaction Ekpo gave when asked about his opinion about Nigeria’s Group G.
“I’m not worried about Egypt being in our group because we know them and their style of game. We have seen Egypt play and all know that their football have drastically fallen,” Ekpo reasoned.
He however added that the north Africans have started a rebuilding process of their national team.
But Tanzania and Chad will pose more problems for the Eagles, according to Ekpo.
“Unlike Egypt, we do not know much about the strengths and weaknesses of Tanzania and Chad. They could spring surprises if they are underrated. The Super Eagles have to prepare for these games as if their lives depend on them.
“The players must give 101%. We still remember that Cape Verde was the surprise team that eliminated Cameroon en route to the 2013 AFCON,” Ekpo warned.
