Africa Boxing Championship: Nigeria’s Oyakojo Cruise Into Q/Finals

Muyideen Oyakojo has qualified for the quarter-finals of the on-going Africa Boxing Championship in Yaounde, Cameroon.



According to aiba.org, Fighting in the flyweight category, 20-year-old Oyakojo defeated Kenya's Simon Mulinge in the third day of the championship, to advance into the last eight.

Oyakojo, will now face Algerian number one Mohamed Flissi.


Speaking after his victory, Oyakojo explained how he was able to overcome Mulinge, stating that he will be ready for his next 

opponent in and will hopefully win it too in order to achieve his dream of making it to the Rio Olympics.


“I was focusing on my opponent and following my plan in the ring and it proved successful against the Kenyan. He is a strong boxer like me, but I caught him in every round and was confident for the final minutes. The Olympic Games are one step closer and I am not tiring, so I am ready for my next challenge in Yaoundé,” he said.


Meanwhile, other bouts that was decided on the third day of the championship, saw 18-year-old Emmnauel Ngoma beat Kenya's Benson Gicharu and Morocco's Imad Ahyoun knocking out Tunisia's Mehdi Hajri.


And in the women's competition, home girl, Christine Akoa Bengono won every round against Ghana’s Ramatu Qauye, before Moroccan number one Hasnaa Lachgar made light work of experienced Kenyan Teresiah Wanjiru to progress.
