–Home Eagles captain speak on Friday’s win over Ghana
Home Eagles captain Chigozie Agbim has declared that he is ready for Saturday’s African Cup of Nations qualifier against Congo after helping the team to beat Ghana 1-0 in last Friday’s international friendly match which was used to open the newly built Uyo International Stadium.`
The Gombe United goalkeeper who spoke to Complete Sports after the Friday’s match said he was happy that Nigeria confirmed her supremacy over the Ghanaians who have always proved tough for the Super Eagles.
“Ghana at any level is a team no one can underrate and beating them this time around gives me joy. We did not underrate then and you will agree with me that despite the match being a friendly game, nobody wanted to lose, so I feel happy that we beat them”, says the Super Eagles star.
Speaking on the standard of the Uyo Stadium, Agbim described it as one of the best in the world but urged Akwa Ibom state government to ensure adequate maintenance and regular sports activities there.
“I like the stadium, it is one of the best in the world today but I will like to appeal to the Akwa Ibom state government to ensure adequate maintenance of the stadium because we cannot have something like this and be looking at it to waste, more so, there must be regular sports activities like league games and other matches there.
Agbim who is confident that Nigeria will beat Congo in Saturday’s qualifier in Brazzaville said the team will be well prepared for the away match while the return leg match against South Africa will be used to secure their qualification to the 2015 African Cup of Nations billed to hold in Morocco.
