Sergio Aguero netted a hat-trick as Manchester City defeated Chelsea 3-0 at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League late game on Saturday.
Super Eagles skipper Mikel Obi and Kelechi Iheanacho were in action.
The win takes City over Arsenal to the third position on 60 points in the league table.
Chelsea remain 10th on 44 points
Aguero had the games first chance in the third minute but his effort was blocked away for a corner by Gary Cahill.
In the sixth minute minute Nicolas Otamendi made a goal line clearance from Pedro.
Diego Costa had the ball in the back of the net in the ninth minute after sloppy play by Pablo Zabaleta but it was ruled for offside.
Joe Hart on 19 minutes palmed away Ruben Loftus-Cheek’s left-foot shot which was destined for the bottom left corner.
On 23 minutes Thibaut Courtois came to Chelsea’s rescue, making a save with his outstretched leg to deny Kevin De Bruyne who was put through by Yaya Toure.
Courtois was on hand to deny City again in the 27th minute, stopping a one-on-one from Samir Nasri.
Aguero opened the scoring in the 33rd minute off De Bruyne’s assist following City’s counter-attack.
In the 43rd minute Cahill made a timely sliding tackle to prevent Aguero from extending City’s lead.
Chelsea had a free-kick close to City’s 18-yard in first half added time after Otamendi fouled Costa but Willian blazed the effort over the bar.
In the second half, Chelsea came close to levelling the score on 47 minutes but loftu-Cheek couldn’t direct pedro’s cross past Hart.
Aguero made it 2-0 in the 54th minute from a Nasri assist following another counter-attack from City.
City had a free-kick on 63 minutes after Azpilicuerta was adjudged to have handled the ball but Toure’s strike came off the Chelsea wall.
Nasri failed to score City’s third in the 65th minute after he was put through by Aguero as his low shot was saved by Courtois.
City made their first change in the 66th minute with Bacary Sagna replacing Zabaleta.
In the 70th minute Chelsea made a double change with Kenedy and Bertrand Traore replacing Pedro and Willian.
Fabian Delph replaced Nasri in the 75th minute for City’s final change.
Aguero grabbed his hat-trick from the penalty spot in the 80th minute after Courtois brought down Fernandinho and was shown a straight red card.
In the 82nd minute Traore tried an outside shot which didn’t trouble Hart.
Fabregas made an attempt outside City’s box but once again Hart made a save.
With five minutes remaining Kelechi Iheanacho was introduced for Aguero.
