Ahead of the 2017 Afrobasket for women in Bamako, Mali later this month, Assistant Coach of Nigeria's national women's basketball team, D'Tigress, Peter Ahmedu has told Completesportsnigeria.com that the Abuja camp is in constant touch with their foreign based counterparts in Florida, United States of America.
Ahmedu also reveals that the same training scheduled adopted by American Coach Sam Vincent who is in charge of the overseas-based players is what the coaches in Nigeria are using to prepare for the Championship.
Speaking with Completesportsnigeria.com in Lagos ahead of the Florida legion arrival on Saturday 5th, August 2017 to join their counterparts in Lagos, Ahmedu says distance is no barrier between the two camps.
“We are in constant touch with Sam Vincent who is the head coach and Mfom Udoka who is the team manager. What they are doing in Orlando and what we are doing in Nigeria is not different. We have the same training programme and we both look into our training drills,” Ahmedu tells Completesportsnigeria.com.
“We will continue to keep our fingers crossed, communicate so as to have daily insight into what they are doing in Orlando.”
He says it will be a different ball game for the team when the Orlando and Lagos camps are merged when the US based players arrive in Lagos on Saturday.
“It’s going to be a different ball game when they eventually arrive. I am impressed with what I am seeing. We are putting everything at our disposal together to see where we could make adjustments before the overseas -based players eventually join us,” states Ahmedu who is in the national team's technical crew for the first time.
