Enyimba International coach, Gbenga Ogunbote has bemoaned his side’s complacency in their ouster in the First Round of the 2017 Aiteo Cup on Wednesday, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.
Enyimba were stunned 2-1 by ABS FC three days after the People’s Elephant mauled the Saraki Boys 3-0 in a Nigeria Professional Football League game last Sunday in Calabar.
The former Shooting Stars, Giwa FC and Sharks of Port Harcourt gaffer admits in his post match interview after the game that the Enyimba missed a great chance to qualify for the CAF Confederations Cup.
Wasiu Alalade scored the winner for the hosts, ABS FC after Eric Frimpong’s 22nd minute goal for Enyimba had cancelled out Adeshina Gata’s spot kick goal in the third minute.
“It was an unfortunate one for us, sometimes you plan for something but you don’t get it,” Ogunbote remarked during his post match interview.
“We paid a high prize for complacency, the competition is the easiest way to a continental ticket.”
Next for Enyimba is a trip to Rivers United in the NPFL the Port Harcourt sidewere also dumped out of the Aiteo competition by J Atete.
