–Israel based Nigeria goalkeeper backs Eagles AFCON bid
Out of favor Eagles and Bnei Yehuda of Israel shot stopper, Dele Aiyenugba has thrown his support behind the Eagles in their efforts to wrestle one of the 2015 AFCON qualification tickets in Group A despite not starting the qualifiers on high.
Aiyenugba stated that as reigning Africa champions, it will not be in the best interest of the nation and quality of the competition if the 2015 AFCON holds without the defending champions.
”I believe in the Eagles, the players have stepped up their game and are doing good so I’m optimistic they will come through”, Aiyenugba, a 2003 and 2004 CAF Champions League winner with Enyimba of Aba said.”
“The most important thing about the team’s form now is that the Eagles have a chance to set the records straight and make Nigerians happy.
”You need to realize that football is not as predictable as it was in the past. Now smaller teams have a go at you, wanting a win and never give you any respect.
“We won our last game and that gave us a chance, if you ask me, that’s the most important thing”, the former Enyimba goalie said.
The Super Eagles will have to win their two remaining games against Congo and South Africa to ensure qualification for the 2015 African showpiece in Morocco.
Head coach, Stephen Keshi who was restored to his managerial position by the President, Dr Goodluck Jonathan has already listed 24 players for the two games slated for Brazzaville and Uyo in two weeks time.
