De Jong, 21, has now emerged as a target and it is thought a fee in the region of £44million would be enough to convince Ajax to cash in on the Netherlands Under-21 international.
However, Catalan giants Barcelona are also keen and Spurs could face a real fight to convince De Jong to opt for a switch to London over Camp Nou.
