Ajayi who was also instrumental in the Al Ahly’s league title success feels they deserve their place at the summit of Egyptian football this season.

The Cairo giants claimed their 36th Egypt Cup after earning a dramatic 2-1 win over Al Masry on Tuesday to end a 10-year Cup drought.

Ahmed Fathi scored the winner in injury time to give the Cairo side the dramatic win.

“It’s what we’ve worked for all year, we deserve it. We started really poor but came back stronger to win. It was a fantastic night, and we’re really pleased,” Ajayi told Completesportsnigeria.com.

“We deserved to be where we are now because we all dug in deep, worked together, the squad did fantastic to put ourselves in position and we finished the job off.

“It’s been a great season for me, we’ve won the league title and the Egyptian Cup, that’s what you play for, to win trophies, and I’m delighted.

“You can never take anything for granted in football.”

Ajayi added that the club will switch their focus to the CAF Champions League, as they are seeking to win their first Champions League title since 2013.

Record eight-time African champions Al Ahly will host Espérance Sportive de Tunis on September 8 in the first leg of the CAF Champions League quarter-final before travelling to face them in Tunisia one week later.

“We have won a double now and our next target is to try and win the CAF Champions League,” Ajayi added.
