Akpoborie: Eagles Have Coaching Problem

Former Super Eagles player, Jonathan Akpoborie has reacted to the poor run of the senior national team in the just concluded 2015 African Cup of Nations qualifiers, saying the team failed to qualify for next year’s edition because of coaching problem.

The Super Eagles played a 2-2 draw with the Bafana Bafana of South Africa in the last Group game on Wednesday to crash out of the race to Equatorial Guinea while Congo beat Sudan 1-0 away to book a flight to the party.

Speaking after the match, Akpoborie queried why Stephen Keshi should allow Emmanuel Emenike to remain in the match for a long time.

“The problem we have is coaching problem because right from day one, this team has not shown any class. Why should Keshi allowed Emenike to stay on for a long time when he had no business there?,” he queried.

“We have not played well in the last few games and nothing was done about it , now the result has come and it is painful”, he concludes

We won the Nations CAN 2013 by a combination of good fortune and things comming in place.. I would take that CAN 2013 trophy ahead of perhaps sustained era of golden Bronze.. Jonathan Akpoborie might be right about keshi, but the truth, Keshi had formed his Team Back bone, which comprises of Enyeama in goal, Oboabona in Denfense, Mikel and Onazi in Midfield, and Emenike in Attack.. Just like Jose Mourihno had his Chelsea untouchables.. The bad thing is the return of Ike Uche, which fns clamoured for.. Perhaps if Uche hadnt been in the Line up, it would have been Emenike and Samuel.. Please note the Coaches are sometimes right.. Uche doesnt fit into Keshi coaching style.. Perhaps time to sweep Eagles players above 30 and start with a new core and a new Coach, a new bench etc..

@Freniya, your father born you very well. You have said it all, Uche coming to the team will make things worse for the game plan, i don’t know why Aaron and Emenike will do the magic to beat South Africa, Uche was wasteful and could not track back whenever he loses ball, he wants to score the goal himself to prove a point. Akpoborie, you also have a problem because all you do is criticize and never proffer solution, the only solution you brought was to include Uche and that is the result so please take it because you were among those that want Keshi fired because of Uche. Let them hire a foreign coach and the same problem will continue. Your comment shows you have no brain, you talk of progress and you have no development plan for the future. Look at South Africa how they went back to the drawing board, identifying the problem and look for the way to solve it, it paid off. You hire a foreign coach without a clear cut plan only to qualify us to Nations Cup and World Cup and that is all, nothing more. Please stop this noise, all the ex players are clueless, all they want is the eagles job.

When they lost in Sudan, Uche was there abi? When Congo beat us at home Uche was there too? The point the man was making was that Emenike should have been removed earlier which was spot on. Yesterday was not Emenike’s day at all and every right thinking person knows that except our backward thinking and sentimental coach. I wonder if some people take their time to read articles before making careless comments. What Akpoborie said was the gospel truth.

  • The only bright people yesterday were Uche and Aluko. A forward thinking coach would have known what to do. You were looking for a win and you started a match with 3 holding mid fielders, two strikers and one winger who is better off as a striker too.. Musa is much better a striker than a winger .. What did you expect? There was no connectivity at all. Keshi just Loves giants people with no Brain. No wonder uche will continue to suffer under this type of coach. I am sure, Daniel amokachi would even do better than Keshi.

But if am to be right,Emenike suppose to be our main striker?but what is he doing in the wing? cos i believe we need a physical playing style player like Emenike in there and not Uche,so why can’t Keshi put uche in wing?but Keshi must leave cos our guys have no plan when they are to score since the end of 2013….
    2014 matches.
    nig-scot 2-2.
    nig-gre 0-0.
    usa-nig 2-1.
    ira-nig 0-0.
    nig-bos 1-0.
    nig-arg 2-3.
    fra-nig 2-0.
    nig-cog 2-3.
    rsa-nig 0-0.
    sud-nig 1-0.
    nig-sud 3-1.
    cog-nig 0-2.
    nig-rsa 2-2.
how can a coach think he’s the best playing 13 games in year?with lost-5,won-3,draw-5 matches, and want to be paid like a top coach,he just put the players on pitch and motivate them that’s all…..cos i expect him to do something effective when the Zulu’s are playing in 10,but nothing change,it’s like we are the one playing a man down…..

@Daybor, it shall be well with you. Infact, what else can I say, you said it all. However, Keshi and Mr. President will understand that Nigeria is bigger than anybody. God bless Nigeria!

@Marsh, I know that you and your Keshi fan club members or Keshi united teammate will boil over with bad belle and put the blame on players that sensible fans forced Keshi to invite to the eagles. Let me ask you, how many goals have your Maradona Emenike scored for Nigeria right from the AFCON 2013 win? Please answer the question or better still ask your Keshi united teammates to provide answer to the question.
Keshi’s beloved players have been more or less mediocre both at club level and National team with the exception of few players like Enyeama, Onazi, and probably Omeruo. You know it yourself that the remaining crop of players that have formed the bedrock of Keshi’s eagles will never smell the national team or at most be bench warmers under an objective coach. Yesterday, I told you that two players that excelled against Congo and South Africa were Aluko and Uche(Enyeama is a given because of his current level), yes the same Uche that people like you and Keshi himself so much maligned in other to actualize his personal vendetta against the player.
He can go to China to invite Aaron but he will not see that currently, Obafemi Martin is in the run for the best footballer in the MLS in USA. Abi USA MLS league no better pass China league? This simply shows you how biased and crooked Keshi is. This was the same behavior he put up when he was a player for the Green eagles in the 1980s and 1990s. I thought you people said he knows no failure, now that he has succeeded in giving Nigeria a shambolic super eagles I hope you all are satisfied with it.
Tell me the rationale for Keshi to take a Gabriel Ruben to the world cup when the player had not played football for his club for almost two years! If you support Keshi’s attitude it means that if given the same opportunity you will put up the same shaddy graddy attitude of Keshi

  • Marsh 7 years ago

@Toppal, as your name sound so you are, you are just waiting for opportunity like this to talk and it shows how myopic you are in your reasoning. You said Keshi went to China to invite a player but the same player scored two goals in two matches and even your La liga player could not equal that fit even with a penalty. Ikpeba who started the campaign against Keshi for inviting Aaron could not hide his face in shame. Aaron Samuel was household name in Nigerian league before he left abroad, it’s a shame for somebody like Ikpeba not to have identify or acknowledge this talent. Aaron is a very good player with strength and can take on any player so playing in China does not make one a bad player. Asamoah Gyan still plays in UAE and still have not lost his quality, he’s still the best striker in Africa any time any day and in big stage he will perform better than those in La Liga and EPL, etc. All those mediocre players you mentioned won the last AFCON and you still call them mediocre after they had won the trophy by criticizing them and the coach and you still want them to qualify and win the cup again to call them average players afterwards, all the time you say it was luck that made them won. You guys are so pathetic! I thought you said there is no quality in AFCON competition so why bothered that we did not qualify? My friend, go and sleep, you can’t eat your cake and have it. It’s time to hire a foreign coach because that is what everybody is yearning for abi? It was not IKE UCHE anymore, a foreign coach will do the magic for Nigeria, i believe that also so let us wait and see. I have seen foreign coaches in Nigeria, right from Otto Gloria to Westernhof. Gloria and Westernhoff, built their teams with local players but today what happens? we go to high leagues to select players and the result is what you get. When Keshi invites players from a local leagues or lower division people will scream, they wont bother to look at the quality but for the fact the person plays in a lower league then he’s junk. Friday Ekpo was with Calabar Rover and Shell Gabon and was playing so well with eagles. Please stop this issues of players this and players that, leagues does not matter. Keshi himself played for Asec Mimosa before he left for Belgium and was still the Captain of eagles. You don’t know Keshi very well, this same Keshi open many doors for this big mouth players like Ikpeba to come to Belgium to ply their trade before they all hit big contracts. Keshi is a disciplinarian and a very good leader so people around see him to be autocratic because he’s result oriented kind of person. No name he has not been called before in Nigeria and yet no one has beat his record. It’s time for him to leave the stage for people like you to have fun.
