Nigeria forward Alex Iwobi made his fifth consecutive start for Arsenal who defeated Victor Anichebe’s West Brom 2-0 at the Emirates to move up to third in the English Premier League table with four games left to play.
It was Arsenal’s third win in their last eight games in the EPL.
The lively Iwobi who made his 10th appearance in the EPL this season was on for 81 minutes in the encounter while his compatriot Anichebe with the Baggies was an unused substitute as his side suffered their 15th defeat of the season.
The 19-year-old has scored twice for the Gunners since making his first Premier League start against Everton.
Alexis Sanchez scored a brace to give the Gunners a 2-0 lead into the first half.
The Chilean scored a sixth minute opener when he turned his marker to fire home a stunner before he curled in a sublime free-kick in the 38th minute from the edge of the box for his 19th goal of the season in all competitions.
Tony Pulis sent on Jonas Olsson, Jose Salomon Rondon and Craig Gardner in the second half in search of redemption but all to no avail as the Gunners held on for their 18th league win of the season.
Anichebe last scored a goal for the Baggies in May 2015.
The Gunners face Sunderland away in their next game on Sunday while West Brom hosts title chasing Tottenham next Monday.
