Home Eagles group opponents at the forthcoming African Nations Championship, Rwanda, lost 4-1 to Algeria in their second pre-tournament friendly fixture played at El Menzeh Stadium in Tunis, Tunisia on Wednesday, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.
The Amavubi had on Sunday played out a 1-1 draw with Namibia in Sousse.
Farouk Chafai scored a first half brace while goals from Abid Mohamed Lamine El Habib secured an emphatic win for Algeria. Mubumbyi Barnabe scored a consolation for the Amavubi in the 80th minute.
Algeria scored the opener in the tenth minute through a Farouk Chafai header off a corner taken by Beoussa Mokhtar. Abeddy Biramahire had the ball in the back of the net in the 16th minute but it was ruled out for offside after good work from Mico Justin.
But six minutes later Abid Mohamed Lamine headed in a cross, beating goalie Eric Ndayishimiye. Farouk made it 3-0 in the 30th minute after skipping past the Rwandan defence to shoot past Eric Ndayishimiye in goal for the Amavubi as the Fennecs raced to a 3-0 lead at half time.
At the start of the second half coach Antoine Hey made four substitutions: Savio Nshuti for Mico Justin, Faustin Usengimana for Manzi Thierry, Ally Niyonzima for Amran Nshimiyimana and Omborenga Fitina for Eric Iradukunda.
Barnabe scored a consolation for the Amavubi in the 80th minute but El Habib restored Algeria’s three-goal margin with a superb strike.
Rwanda will face Nigeria in their first group game on January 15 in Tangier before taking on Equatorial Guinea on the 19th and Libya on the 23rd.
The 2018 CHAN competition will run from January 13 to February 4.
