Liverpool keeper Alisson Becker is backing Fabinho to make his mark at Anfield after impressing against Red Star Belgrade. The Brazilian duo were both signed by the Reds in the summer and joined compatriot Roberto Firmino in Jurgen Klopp’s squad.
As a goalkeeper, Alisson has found it easy to acclimatise to English football but his team-mate has had bigger issues.
Klopp has always said he wants to bed Fabinho into the side and ensure he is up to pace before being given a run.
Wednesday’s 4-0 win over Red Star marked the first time the 25-year-old has made it through 90 minutes for the Reds in a performance that the boss described as “very, very good” and Alisson feels he can establish himself as a key member of the side.
Alisson said: “Fabinho is a great player and a great man, today he showed his quality and I’m sure he will fight for his position, the competition is good for the team.”
The Brazil goalkeeper also had some special praise for the aforementioned Firmino, who scored his side’s opening goal against the Serbian champions.
Having played a more withdrawn role on Wednesday and his club and international team-mate feels that versatility only highlights ‘Bobby’s’ importance to the side.
“Bobby is a beast, that’s why (Steven) Gerrard said he is the key to this team, today he played as a 10 and he feels really good playing deep as well as a 9,” Alisson added.
“I played here last season and I know how difficult it is to play Liverpool.”11 BUSINESS NUGGETS FROM SUPER EAGLES BRONZE MEDAL TRIUMPH. The content of this ebook will propel you above your competition. DOWNLOAD NOW!!!
