Alloy: We Will Select Super Eagles World Cup Goalkeepers On Merit

By Adeboye Amosu:
Super Eagles goalkeeper trainer, Alloy Agu, insists the four goalkeepers in the team’s 30-man provisional squad for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia will get equal opportunity to prove their worth, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.

The quartet of Ikechukwu Ezenwa, Daniel Akpeyi, Francis Uzoho and Dele Ajiboye will vie for the three slots reserved for goalkeepers in the final 23-man squad.

Ezenwa, Uzoho and Akpeyi were called up for the team’s last four games against Algeria, Argentina, Poland and Serbia.

Ajiboye, who was outstanding for Plateau United in their title success in the Nigeria Professional Football League last season, was also part of the team in some of the qualifying games.

He is seen by many as having little chance of making the final squad to Russia having been overlooked by handler of the side, Gernot Rohr in recent times.

But Alloy, who was part of the Super Eagles squad in Nigeria’s debut in the FIFA World Cup at the USA 1994 said the selection will be done fair and square.

“Everything will be done on merit. We are lucky to have these quality goalkeepers in the team at the moment and we will give them equal chance to show what they can do,” Alloy told CSN.

“I don’t support the view that there is a favourite among the four or that we already know the three that will go with the team to Russia.

“I know they all want to be in Russia which will make them give their all in training. That itself is good for the team as it will give us the opportunity to pick the best for the team.”

Akpeyi has nothing to do with that team o. For me, i prefer Ajiboye as No.1 by far to Ezenwa or Uzoho. Was i the only that saw the great saves Ajiboye made during the Semi-Final at CHAN against Sudan when he came in for Ezenwa. Not just that only, what about the FINAL against Morroco if not for his tremendous saves he made that day,the scoreline would have been a Cricket scoreline. But it seems like Coach GR displays favouritism in the Goal-keeping department.

  • Akpeyi is better than them. He needs courage. Watch his performance in South Africa

  • From all indications, these goalies will rank like this, with the last guy staying home: Uzoho, Ezenwa, Akpeyi, Ajiboye. They are all good goalies except that Akpeyi can be shaky with anxiety at times.

Everyone is castigating Akpeyi this Akpeyi that. Ajiboye is just a gatecrasher from my view. Agreed he did well somehow with the CHAN team but that is not enough to remove someone that has been with the team. Except someone is extremely good before he can displace another goalkeeper or he is playing oversea. Akpeyi is the super regular long time keeper of Chippa fc of South Africa and they are 10th on their table. What he lacks is confidence. Self assured personality. Of course confidence in football is very important for your opponent can play on it if the goalkeeper is jittery. We are going to play teams that have experts that can sense any weakness in a team and work on it. As for Akpeyi, I believe if he plays outside Nigeria, anywhere in the world, he will do well. It is that consciousness of playing before a crowd and TV viewers that are his childhood friends, primary /secondary school mates, former club mates, relatives and kinsmen plus the serious criticism from the public that is making him loss confidence anytime he plays in Uyo or elsewhere. Ezenwa, Uzoho and Akpeyi should be in Russia. So Alloy Agu should not give us that “base on merit” thing. We know how we Nigerians work.

Sorry, i can’t be deceived by you Mr. Alloy Agu. You that didn’t know what to do by using Akpeyi continuously, not until coach Rohr decided to bring another goalkeeper trainer, and the coach discovered Ezenwa.

Deep down inside you Mr. Alloy Agu,
These are your selections for the world cup.

    No1 Akpeyi
    No2 Ezenwa
    No3 Uzoho

    Which is totally wrong.

This is my own selection for the sake of this Nation.

    No1 Ajiboye
    N02 Uzoho
    N03 Ezenwa

If you knew Ajiboye since under17 world cup then, you will agreed with me
    That he deserves an “accolade”.

However, this is what the coach Rohr selection would look like.

    No1 Uzoho
    No2 Akpeyi
    N03 Ezenwa

This is a bad market. Sorry, You don’t do experiment at this level. World cup is meant for matured and established players.

Note: Sentiment might coursing us a huge failure in Russia with this kind of scenario.

God already done is part and everything is going on smoothly.
    Thank God for his mercy.

Lastly, this people will do “magomago”
to “dabaru” the selection of the final list.

They will kick out some of our key players from the final list.
    Such as,

And the team will be very weak if they do so.

As a patriotic Nigerian, I omo9ja will never failed Nigeria to face the truth and bring the best out of our national coaches. So help me God.

God bless us all. God bless Nigeria!!!

Ebuehi can displace Shehu, they shouldn’t play politics with him please,in this goal keeper issue,Ajiboye,Uzoho,Ezenwa. If you guys take Akpeyi think of passionate fans that want to see good football. Lastly Ebuehi shouldn’t be toyed with,he’s a talent the world we see.

ajiboye for me should go to the world cup ahead of akpeyi. he looks more confident when in goal and his reflexes are good

Well said do your best Mr. Alloy pick the best for the team, my only prayer is that God will give you the wisdom to choose rightly for the interest of the nation and not sentiments.
God bless the Super Eagles, God bless Nigeria.

How can a keeper in the class of Akpeyi commit that error in the friendly match against Argentina by picking up the ball out the box? And I don’t why the coach always invite him to the eagles camp.if Nigeria failed to go far in the world cup, it will be because of our suicidal decisions based on sentiments.
