Bayern Munich midfield stalwart Xabi Alonso betrayed his eternal love for former club Liverpool when he promptly announced the final result of the struggling Anfield giants’ clash with Aston Villa.
“I learned they won 3-2 and I’m happy for them,” announced the 2010 World Cup champion shortly after helping Bayern to a 3-0 victory against Mainz at the Coface Arena.
The Liverpool match had hardly ended when the Alonso surprisingly announced the final scoreline to Completesportsnigeria.com inside the mixed zone at the Coface Arena.
“I monitor Liverpool’s result anytime they play,” Alonso continued. “I still retain the fond memories of my time at Anfield. I had an incredible time there and won the biggest club trophy there as well.
“I adore the fans as they adore me. There’s always a special feeling about Anfield.”
Despite his undying love for the Reds however, Alonso would not want to be drawn into the raging debate about the future of Liverpool’s beleaguered manager Brendan Rodgers as he briskly walked away immediately the issue was raised.
