Amata Scales New Height In Dakar

— Wins High Jump Event, Sets New Personal Season’s Best
By Dare Esan:

It is also Amata’s second best mark ever since she first cleared 1.95m on July 3,2008 in Abuja. She has cleared 1.95m twice threafter (both in 2011) and has not soared beyond

Meanwhile one of the American athletes imported to compete for Nigeria by the Athletic Federation of Nigeria Mark Jelks failed, for the umpteenth time, to justify his switch of allegiance to Nigeria as he failed to inspire in the 100m and 200m events at the meeting.
Jelks, a former drugs cheat, ran 10.20 seconds to place fifth in the 100m behind Gittens Ramon (10.08) of Barbados, South African duo of Engel Roscoe (10.12) and Bruintjies
Henricho (10.16) and Zambia’s Siame Sydney (10.18).
The American-Nigerian however came in third in the 200m (20.88) behind Henricho of South Africa (20.71) and Gambia’s Jammeh Adama (20.75).
In the women’s 400m, Patience Okon ran 52.12 seconds to come first with compatriot Amaka Ogoegbunam coming in fourth (54.06).
