–Ready to prove worth at Newcastle
Sammy Ameobi admits the time has come for him to step up and prove to Alan Pardew he is worth a regular place in the Newcastle side. Pardew is well aware that Ameobi has bags of raw ability but he has not always shown it on a consistent basis and has often left his manager feeling frustrated.
The Toon boss threw down the gauntlet at the start of the season when saying that Ameobi needs to raise his game, and so far the player has done just that.
There is still a long way for him to go before he can become established, but he seems determined to get there.
“I want to start for Newcastle every week, so I’ve got to make the most of this opportunity and make sure I don’t slip up,” he told the Shields Gazette.
“This season I’ve worked really hard, played Under-21 games to stay on top of my fitness, and have got my chance now. “I’m not going to let that go this time. I’m not a kid anymore, and I realise that. It’s one thing being told you have all this talent, but I’m at an age when I have to produce it.”
