Ameobi: We Were Not Quick Enough

Super Eagles forward, Shola Ameobi attributed the team’s anaemic performance against Iran to lack enough pace necessary for breaking a packed defence.

The. Newcastle United ace was hurled into the fray in the 52nd minute, replacing Victor Moses, and he reckoned it was a disappointing first match for the team.

“The coach asked me to go and score when I came on as a substitute,” Ameobi offered. “Unfortunately, we could not score because our build-up play was not quick enough.

“When you face a team like Iran who have many players behind the ball in defense, then you have to move the ball quickly. We didn’t do that, so they were able to frustrate us.”

Fantastic! You said it all my brother. That was the only remedy to our victory. Osaze did show an example of the kind of game that would have given us an eadge over them.
