Amir Axed For Australia Showdown

Pace bowler Mohamed Amir has been dropped from the Pakistan squad for the upcoming two-Test series against Australia. The PCB named a 17-man squad for the series against the Baggy Greens in the United Arab Emirates next month with Amir omitted after a disappointing spell, in which he failed to take a wicket in three Asia Cup matches this month.

It’s still a surprise given that the 26-year-old, who was banned for five years in 2011 for spot-fixing, has been involved in all but one of Pakistan’s 20 Tests since making his comeback two years ago.

But it also seems Amir’s inability to swing the ball on the spin-friendly pitches in the UAE was another key to the decision given that he was omitted from the squad for the one-day international tournament in the Arabian Peninsula.

Left-arm seamer Wahab Riaz has been recalled in Amir’s absence despite the fact he has not played Test cricket since last October.

Pakistan chief selector Inzamam-ul-Haq said: “The team has been selected keeping in mind the conditions in the UAE, where Mohammad Amir has been dropped from the side and Wahab Riaz and Mir Hamza come in.”
