Amoo: U20 Players Still Good For U23, Super Eagles

By Izuchukwu Okosi:
Dream Team U23 assistant coach Fatai Amoo has leapt to the defense of the Flying Eagles stars who faltered to deceive at the FIFA U20 World Cup in New Zealand, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.

Despite being one of the favourites to reach the semi-finals stage of the FIFA U20 World Cup, Manu Garba and his team were eliminated in the Round of 16 stages by European champions, Germany who defeated the African U20 champions 1-0 in Christchurch on Thursday.

“As expected, good U20 players in any country are expected to graduate to the U23 and senior teams, and that is the case with the Flying Eagles players.

“Some of them are already part of our plans for the All Africa Games and Olympics. They may not have won the U20 World Cup but they have great future in the game.

“Four of them were in our last All African Games qualifiers and two of them started the match. So that tells you that they are in our plans,” Amoo, the former banker turned football coach tells Completesportsnigeria.com.

However Amoo would not confirm to Completesportsnigeria.com if Flying Eagles captain, Musa Mohammed, will indeed be part of the U23 team after he went AWOL when invited for the Dream Team’s All African Games qualifying match.

“That is a decision for the chief coach, Samson Siasia to make. Mohammed is a good player and it’s important that he remains level-headed. I’m not in a position to respond to your question about the player; Samson is the head coach,” Amoo concludes with a warm smile.

The Flying Eagles are back in Nigeria and are currently in Abuja.
