Nigeria U17 team coach, Emmanuel Amuneke has congratulated the Amajimbos of South Africa following their 1-0 victory Over the Golden Eaglets in Wednesday’s first semi-final of the CAF U-17 championship.
Khanyisa Eric Mayo scored the game’s only goal on 26 minutes to send his team to their first ever final.
According to cafonline.com, reacting to the loss at the post-match press conference, Amuneke blamed the defeat to a lapse in his team’s defence.
“We congratulate South Africa. They did well to beat us. We lost by one defensive mistake and gave away a cheap goal.”
Amuneke stated that he would have loved playing in the final, but he was happy that the team’s objective which was to qualify for the FIFA U-17 World Cup in Chile was achieved.
“We lost in the final last time out. Our aim was to qualify for the World Cup but we hoped to play in the final.
The second semi-final which is billed for Thursday, will see Mali take on Guinea for a place in Sunday’s final against South Africa.
