Flying Eagles head coach, Emmanuel Amuneke, has dedicated the team's CAF U-20 Nations Cup qualifier Second Leg, Second Round win over Burundi to late national team coaches; Stephen Keshi and Amodu Shuaibu, who passed away Wednesday June 8 and Saturday June 11 respectively.
The former Barcelona winger Amuneke made the dedication moments after the match on Saturday at the UJ Esuene Stadium, Calabar, venue of the match.l
The Flying Eagles won with a 3-1 aggregate having defeated the Burundians 1-0 two weeks ago in Bujumbura, capital of Burundi.
“I am dedicating this victory to the late coaches of Super Eagles, Stephen Keshi and Amodu Shaibu.
“It’s a pity that we lost our finest coaches and masters of the game, may their souls rest in peace’’, Amuneke, whose goal against Argentina in the 3-2 victory won the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Soccer gold for Nigeria U-23 Dream Team said.
The Chile 2015 FIFA U-17 Golden Eaglets World Cup winning coach heaped praises on his players for rising effectively to the occasion against Burundi.
“Playing at home gives you an opportunity to excel,” he said.
Victor Osimhen scored the first goal when he converted a penalty in the 72 minute while Kelechi Nwakali scored the second goal through a free kick in 82 minute.
The Nigerian youngsters were cruising home to a comfortable 2-0 lead before Hoikunana Magloire pulled one back for the Burundians in the 87th minute.
The Flying Eagles will play Sudan in the next round of the qualifiers.
