Coach of National U-17 team, Emmanuel Amuneke has expressed unhappiness despite the Golden Eaglets’ 1-0 win over the Congo DR on Saturday in 2015 U-17 African Championship qualifier played in Kinshasa.
“I’m not happy despite the fact that we won this match”, Amuneke said afterwards.
“If we had taken our chances, the story would have been different because we had all the chances but we wasted so much.
But Amuneke praised the Les Leopards for their fighting spirit after conceding a goal, adding that his boys would have to up their game in the reverse fixture in a fortnight.
“We have seen what the Congolese can do and that means more work for us in the second leg but we are positive of going through eventually,” he assured.
Meanwhile, His Excellency, Dr. Grant Ehiobuche, Nigeria’s Ambassador to the Congo Democratic Republic, hosted the Golden Eaglets to a dinner reception after the match to appreciate the effort of the players in the 1-0 victory.
The dinner had in attendance Association of Nigerians in Diaspora in Congo Democratic Republic as well as officials of Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) including leader of delegation, Mr, Rafiu Yusuf, Mr. Emmanuel Adesanya and Mr. Kut Kut Fon.
Ehiobuche, a career diplomat spanning over two decades, said he was happy that the Coach Emmanuel Amuneke -led side was able to wipe away the shame of Nigerians leaving in the central African country following the 3-1 thrashing of Kano Pillars and subsequent elimination
from the CAF Champions League in February. He praised the resilience of the team yet counselling the players to be prayerful in order to become the next generation of African superstars.
“Personally, I’m happy for so many reasons apart from the fact that you beat Congo DR today,” stated the debonair diplomat who had previously served in Mexico, Japan, Sierra Leone amongst others.
