Former Super Eagles winger, Emmanuel Amuneke, has backed head coach Gernot Rohr's monitoring of Super Eagles players in his efforts to ensure that Nigeria qualify for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.
Amuneke spoke with Completesportsnigeria.com on Tuesday on Rhor's intentions of guaging the psyche of the Eagles players ahead of the 2018 World Cup qualifiers against Cameroon.
"Gernot Rohr being at some clubs in Europe to see some of the players he intends to invite for the World Cup qualifiers is great," Amunueke states.
"He stays in Europe, so you cannot begrudge him traveling to some countries there because it's closer for him to reach those boys.
"Rohr and the Nigeria Football Federation need Nigerians' support and not criticisms at this time. Let him select the players and goalkeepers he wants. He needs to find out who's ready for those crucial matches.
"It's him the coach who takes the glory or blames for the team's performances," the 1994 African Footballer of the Year winner Amuneke concludes.
Nigeria will host Cameroon in the first of the two fixtures between both countries on September 1 at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo.
